Our work
In the ATMI workshop, students will learn how to work cooperatively with others, compete for fun and enjoyment, and work autonomously on their own to achieve a common goal.
This style of learning mimics the dynamic of a typical decorating team, where a group has been formed by the employer to achieve a professional finish. A goal is set, and teams must work together to achieve this goal.
A goal structure will be decided between ATMI and the school's management, to implement within the duration of the Programme. The most important goal structure, and the one that will be used the majority of the time in this programme, is cooperation. The purpose of cooperative learning groups is to make each member a stronger individual in his or her right. Students learn together so that they can subsequently perform higher as individuals.
Group Work -
We can cater for groups varying in size from 8 to 24 students.
Groups will be chosen upon recommendation of the educational body,[RF1] and positive interdependence will be encouraged within each group. Groups will be given a clear goal, which will only be achievable if each member works in cooperation with each other.
Individual and Group Accountability
An essential element of the ATMI course is individual and group accountability. The group will be accountable for achieving its goals. Generally this goal will be to complete the decoration of an area within the school i.e. a classroom or corridor .Each member must be accountable for contributing his or her share of the work . This is typical of a painting crew dynamic when facing a time deadline where a workload and time frame has been predetermined by management.
Interactional Goals
An essential component of any apprenticeship is promotive interaction, Promotive interaction occurs when the group share resources and help, support, encourage, and praise each other's efforts to learn , and is essential for an effective decorating team to function.
Academic Goals
The ATMI programme will emphasise the student's interpersonal and small group skills. Students are required to learn the basic manual skills (taskwork) and also to learn the interpersonal and small group skills required to function as part of a group (teamwork). Group members gain experience in the provision of effective leadership, decision-making, trust-building, communication, and conflict-management.
